QHealth Observation

A vegetarian cat can be healthier and has stronger immunity to prevent diseases. It will own a softer and shinier coat and milder temper. A cat that starts its vegetarian diet should be giving more attention. If the below situations happened, please go back to his original diet.

Coat observation: the best indication of a cat's health is his coat. If a cat's coat became dull and drier after start the vegetarian diet food, it might mean your cat does not adapt to the vegetarian diet well. If this situation does not improve, please go back to his original diet.

Faecal observation: a healthy cat's stool should be compact without hard and no pungent odor. It might take sometimes for its stool to be back to normal after change of diet. When you notice the stool is in unusual condition, it means its digestion system could not adapt to this new vegetarian diet. If this situation does not improve, please go back to his original diet.

Weight observation: if your cat is in overweight or underweight condition after eating vegetarian diet, please add the quantity of food to meet the nutrients that your cat needs.

QHow to Change

Make changes to your cat's diet slowly. Please add a small amount vegetarian food into its usual diet, then increasing the amount slowly by replacing his old diet with the new. Make sure your cat is getting enough nutrition for his daily needs or else decreasing the new diet again for better adaption.

If your cat likes strong flavor, you may add some non-animal rennet cheese powders in your cat's vegetarian diet.

However the best time to begin vegetarian diet of your cat is when he is a puppy. Due to the different nutrition requirement of a puppy and adult dog, it is important to choose a suitable vegetarian diet food that meets the nutrient needs of your pet. A vegetarian kitten tends to grow healthier than a non vegetarian kitten.

Nutrition requirements between a kitten and an adult cat are different. A growing kitten needs more proteins, minerals and vitamins to for his rapid growth.

Protein and calcium and phosphorus are important for teeth and bones growth. The absence of calcium and phosphorus will effect in kitten's growth and lead to incomplete development of bones or rickets. Excess nutrients could obstruct the proper growth as well or lead to other serious health problems, including obesity, bone disorder, heart disease or kidney disease and so on. Choosing vegetarian diet food that contains sufficient nutrients formula that a kitten needs should be extra cautious.

If the food is too hard for kitten, suggest to soak into warm water before consumption.

The needs of nutrient and organ function will decrease gradually for a senior cat. Demand of energy will decrease as well due to the decline of activity.

The diet for senior cat should contain the right amount of protein that required by the body. It is recommended to reduce the consumption of sodium and phosphorus in order to prevent kidney disease. Therefore, it is important to pay attention on the nutrition analysis of the food for senior cat. The nutrition of the food should not more than the senior cat needs. Please do not fully change the diet to full vegetarian at once. Sometimes, it is easy to change senior cat’s diet but sometimes it is not. Do not force the cats on this diet change. You can try to feed them with lesser meat gradually, together with vegetarian pet food. If meat is necessary, please select those meats (fish or chicken) which are for human consumption.

In the absence of arachidonic acid, cats’ coat could become dry and dull or even skin diseases. The arachidonic acid is extracted from meat tissues and also seaweeds by advance biotechnology. Therefore the problem that cats cannot convert linoleic acid to taurine by themselve does not stop cats to have vegetarian diet foods on their daily lives.
